The Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia promoted a paper "The Global Guardian" on NATO in the future, how should NATO face the global challenges and respond to the growing security pressure in the world.

The President of EACM and one of the authors, Lazar Elenovski believes that the Alliance needs a political and military reform:
-Today, NATO is one of the most dynamic organizations in the world which has transformed after the Cold war. In that direction, we believe that NATO should continue with the transformation, only this time, towards its globalization. It should not be a “world policeman” but a security organization which will protect the civilization benefits and the values of the humanity – said Elenovski.

According to Elenovski, the military transformation should be directed towards building modern military capacities, appropriate defense budget, common investments and initiatives, reform of the military headquarters, as well as establishment of rapid NATO force.

Concerning Macedonia and the NATO New Strategic Concept, Elenovski said that Macedonia has shown that it is a good partner to the Alliance:
-Macedonia fulfilled the criteria in 2008, but a precedent occurred in the alliance – a country which has already fulfilled the criteria not to become a member due to political reasons. Still, Macedonia contributes to the peace missions in the most sensitive areas of cooperation. Through four percent of its land forces permanently present in Afghanistan and the other missions, Macedonia, as a partner, is very aware of the future and the New Strategic Concept, especially of the obligations and sharing of the burden – underlined Elenovski.

The Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia concluded that NATO must accept the reality and to globalize in order to remain the only efficient tool for protection of the peace and security throughout the world.
The NATO New Strategic Concept has initiated intensive global debate in which, beside the member-states, were also included the partners, the politicians, military headquarters, civil society, the media and the citizens, through the internet communication.
