Colonel Metodi Hadji-Janev, Ph.D. is an associate professor of international law at the Military Academy General Mihailo Apostolski”-Skopje, a unit of University “Goce Delcev” in Stip, Macedonia. He is a graduate of the Macedonian Military Academy and the United States Air Command and Staff College. He also holds MA and PhD degrees in International Law from the Law Faculty “Justinian I” in Skopje, Macedonia. Col. Hadji-Janev serves as a Vice Dean for education and Research at the Military Academy and a Visiting professor of postgraduate studies at the Law faculty “Justinia- I”, University “St. Cyril and Metodij” in Skopje, where he teaches graduate courses related to legal aspects of combating terrorism, international terrorism, and transitional crime. Col. Hadji-Janev’s current scholarship focuses on legal and strategic aspects of countering asymmetric, cyber, and hybrid based threats, with emphasis on critical information infrastructure and critical infrastructure protection in South Eastern Europe; on legal and strategic aspects force uses in countering terrorism threats, and on the development of legislation and strategy documents to effectively counter cyber and hybrid threat vectors.

He serves as a member of the advisory council at Center for Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Arizona State University and actively engages in collaborations with and NATO Center of Excellence Defense Against Terrorism in Ankara, Turkey. Col. Hadji-Janev served 12 years as a Special Forces officer and is a global war on terrorism veteran. He served as the Macedonian Special Forces Task contingent commander during the Iraqi Freedom campaign. His extensive training in counterterrorism and his experience of Iraq were instrumental in his appointment to serve as a senior officer responsible for Macedonian Special Forces pre-deployment training in Afghanistan. He also designed the national Rules of Engagement for Macedonian Special Forces during the joint Macedonian-US operation Phoenix in South-East Afghanistan.
