On the occasion of the Day of NATO – 4th of April and the 70th Anniversary of the Alliance,  many events were organized, honoring the NATO week, but also celebrating the Ratification process for the country and becoming a full – 30th member of NATO.

As part of the NATO week, on 6th of April, for the first time in Skopje, along the river Vardar, the NATO Run was organized, which was open for participation for all interested citizens.

More than 270 competitors ran on the 3km and 5km tracks. The fastest three participants will be awarded with the opportunity to run on the international annual NATO marathon in Budapest, Hungary.

Along with the citizens, the Minister of Defense, Ms. Radmila Sekerinska, the Chief of Staff of the Army, General Vasko Gjurchinovski, the euro ambassador Samuel Zhbogar, and the Chief of the NATO Liaison Office in Skopje, General Jankovic, and members of the army and the Ministry of Defense, also participated on this race.

The run was officially opened by the Chief of the NATO Liaison Office in Skopje, General Zoran Jankovic, who on this occasion expressed his believe that our country will soon become the 30th member of the Alliance.

On 7th of April in the City Park, on the Open Day of the Army , the winners of the race were declared and awarded with medals.

The NATO Run was organized by the Euro – Atlantic Council of Macedonia, the  Ministry of Defense, the Army, the Athletic Federation, the Agency for Youth and Sport, and Atlantic Treaty Association.

The RUN was supported by NATO's Public Diplomacy Division, the City of Skopje, Military Police, Smart Race Club Skopje, Athletic Clubs from Veles, Kumanovo and other cities, ambulance – first aid (several vehicles), Red Cross, Volunteers, several private companies and many organizations.
