Post-Lisbon: New NATO for the New Era – Developing the Strategic Concept 2010 December 2010 PDF Print E-mail

In line with the activities that the Euro-Atlantic Council of Macedonia has been working on considering the NATO Strategic Concept 2010 after the NATO Lisbon Summit it implemented the project Post-Lisbon: New NATO for the New Era – Developing the Strategic Concept 2010 in December 2010.

The project was an umbrella project which consisted from a round table and a NATO Student simulation.

The NATO Student simulation was a youth project and reflected a scenario of a real-life NATO summit with one item on the agenda: adopting of a Declaration for Security.

Participants at the simulation were students from universities in Macedonia who were adequately prepared for the simulation representing countries members of NATO and international organizations.

The simulation went very well and completed the envisaged goals:

  • to provide students with a unique opportunity to experience the environment of political bargaining and coalition building during the decision-making process in NATO;
  • create a working atmosphere as close to the actual one as possible;
  • Give students a chance for researches on the NATO and expressing their opinions
  • Raising the awareness among the broader public of what the integration means and what are the contributions of all of the citizens of the country
  • Grasp the meaning of the process of Euro-Atlantic integration for the Macedonian society

Special guests for the simulation were Barbora Maronkova from NATO PDD and Giuseppe Belardetti, the president of the YATA who had the role of the NATO Secretary General.

The guests gave very benefitial contribution to the simulation and without their participation there wasn’t going to be such successful event.

The NATO SUMMIT Student simulation is organized for the first time in the country by any organization, and considering the interest it has with the participants and observers and the impressions from NATO PDD it has the prospective of becoming a traditional project of the YATA Macedonia.
