Euro – Atlantic Council of Macedonia every year marks the day of the signing of the Washington Treaty. This year, for the 16th time was marked 64th anniversary of the forming of the Alliance.

“NATO week – Secure the future” is project that represents concept and resume from few different activities and events that have mutual purpose – to mark 4 April, the day when it celebrates the Washington Treaty. For the period of 5 working days, there were 10 events and activities that echoed in the Macedonian public.

First event of the NATO week was the successfully organized 4th NATO Student Simulation entitled “NATO and partners – future challenges and beyond?!” The Simulation represented meeting of the Heads of government and states of the North Atlantic Council, where they discussed cooperation with the partners and future challenges. The event had big educational influence on the students because it gave them opportunity to learn about the problems of NATO, security and international politics, this time with special accent on the cooperation of NATO and the partners.

With this year NATO Student Simulation practically the first Social Media Network for Security and Defence Issues – Atlantica was launched!

The event was held on 28 March 2013 at the ERA Center, Skopje was supported by the NATO Public Diplomacy Division.

With the intensifying of the activities which are important for the integration of the country in NATO and the engagement of the Macedonian Armed Forces in different peace keeping missions throughout the world, the need for increased knowledge of International Humanitarian Law for all who are engaged with NATO integration, security and peace question becomes very important.

Macedonian Red Cross represent main actor in the activities for dissemination of the International Humanitarian Law in the country. In that light, on 02 April 2013, Euro – Atlantic Council of Macedonia in cooperation with the Macedonian Red Cross was organized one day training for International Humanitarian Law on the topic: “NATO and International Humanitarian Law”.

Despite the traditional part for the basics of the International Humanitarian Law, the workshop included challenges for the International Humanitarian Law in contemporary context, especially the aspect of peace operations and fight against the terrorism.

As third part of the NATO week, the Euro – Atlantic Council of Macedonia in cooperation with the Economic Chamber of Macedonia and Faculty for Security – Skopje organized one day scientific conference entitled “Influence of the euro – atlantic integrations over the economy in the Republic of Macedonia”. This scientific conference had comprehensive approach which was proved with the different spectrum of participants and their level. The event was held on 3 April 2013 in the premises of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia.

Furthermore in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, EACM organized press conference for the broad public and the Medias in Republic of Macedonia, on 4th April, the NATO day – with goal to send strong confirmation for the devotion of Republic of Macedonia to the Euro – Atlantic integrations. As last part of the event was the signing of the Memorandum for cooperation between Euro – Atlantic Council of Macedonia and Faculty for Security – Skopje, which will deepen the future cooperation.

In addition to the workshop for International Humanitarian Law, the NATO week was finished with one humanitarian act again in cooperation with the Macedonian Red Cross. We from EACM, just like the Alliance, our attention is pointed towards humanitarian actions. After the successful completion of the collective action, the donations in food, clothes and basic tools for personal hygiene, representatives from YATA Macedonia together with the volunteers of the Macedonian Red Cross delivered them to the checkpoint for homeless, which is located in Momin Potok and to other 120 elderly frail people included in the project “Daily center for elder people and center for assistance at home” of the Red Cross – Skopje.

On these events there high guests such as: Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, Ambassadors, Parliamentarians, State Secretaries and Counselors, as well as high representatives from the Ministries. From the academic community, the deans of faculties and over 20 professors and experts from the field of defence, security, political and law science, economy, environment and technical sciences.

On great pleasure, on the events there were over 250 students present.

All the previous facts represent the physical present persons on the events. This is important because Euro – Atlantic Council of Macedonia every time brings something new to its events.

The two previously organized events were broadcasted live on the Atlantic Treaty Association site. Network of 42 national chapters through the Atlantic. Also the broadcast was on the Social Media Network – Atlantica, the official web site of EACM and Economic Chamber of Macedonia.

The broadcast was opened over 2000 times, with 300 viewers and was commented from 50 visitors. Also, one interesting innovation was this year NATO Student Simulation, which was chaired from the NATO Secretary General, but this time through video conference from Lisbon, Portugal. The president of the partner organization from Portugal and Secretary General of the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association, Joao Freitas chaired the event via video link which lasted more than 5 hours.

The success of the NATO week can be measured through various indicators, where reached many records.
